Position Title: Counselor

Stipend: $275.00, from which taxes will be deducted.

Responsible to: Head Counselor and Board of Directors

Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  2. Must have previous camp experience, have close ties to someone with diabetes, or be currently enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, a health care profession that will involve the care of children with diabetes.
  3. Must be of good character.
  4. Must be able to relate to one’s peers as well as children.
  5. Must exhibit flexibility along with the ability to accept supervision.

General responsibility: To live with and guide a specified group of campers throughout their camp experience.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Live in cabin with assigned group of campers.
  2. Assume responsibility for leadership and guidance to those campers in daily living, with special attention to: personal hygiene and safety, camper participation in ALL camp activities, camper participation in planning cabin activities, meal time behavior, and habits.
  3. Assume responsibility as assistant activity specialist in an assigned activity area.
  4. Assume responsibility for interpreting the rules, policies, and traditions of the camp to the camper.
  5. Serve as a good example in personal language, appearance, and health habits.
  6. Assume responsibility for health and welfare of campers entrusted to his/her charge.

Essential Functions:

  1. Be physically able to accompany the campers to any of the camp activities.
  2. Be able to communicate verbally with campers, and provide instructions.
  3. Have visual ability to recognize hazards in the camp setting and the auditory ability to respond appropriately to those hazards.
  4. Be able to observe camper behavior in daily camp life, to respond to health and safety concerns, and to deal appropriately with improper behavior.
  5. Other assigned duties as required.
