Application for Head Counselor

Responsible to:  Camp Kno-Koma Board of Directors President/Camp Director

Stipend:  $500.00 from which taxes will be deducted after successful completion of all outlined responsibilities.

Qualifications:

·         At least 21 years of age

·         Extensive experience as a group counselor or staff member in camp setting

·         Ability to relate to one’s peers as well as children

·         Good character

·         Ability to work with a minimum of supervision

 General Responsibility:  To supervise and train counselors, assist in planning of activities, and report to the board of directors in a timely fashion any information affecting counselors and the performance of their jobs while at camp

 Specific Responsibilities:

·         Distribute applications to prospective counselors by March 1 of current camp year

·         Proceed with interviews and hiring of specified number of counselors (depending on projected number of campers)

·         Report to Board of Directors at scheduled board meetings

·         Submit final names and number of counselors to Board of Directors for their approval no later than June board meeting of current camp year

·         Submit copies of contracts and medical consent forms of all counselors for proper filing no later than June board meeting of current camp year

·         Offer pre-camp training sessions for all counselors prior to the arrival of campers

·         Communicate with and resolve any schedule conflicts with the Activities Coordinator

·         Ensure adequate counselor coverage at all activities

·         Conduct counselor staff meetings during the week of camp

·         In conjunction with Camp Director, discipline, and dismiss if necessary, counselors in violation of their duties

·         Communicate with the Board of Directors on a regular basis throughout the year

·         When necessary, due to insufficient counselor hiring, accept the position of counselor in addition to Head Counselor duties

·         Evaluate each counselor on performance as a counselor

·         Additional items as determined by the Board of Directors
